Opening: This website is dedicated to the users, and previous users of Cox High Speed Internet. It is a demonstration of the speeds of Cox High Speed Internet in photographs taken by the users. None of these photographs are false, and none of the connections have been altered to produce a higher or lower rating. Some of these speeds may be very low! This first series of photographs were taken on resedential
cable with dynamic ip addresses. The location was Vienna, Va.
Prognosis: Ping was steadily above the 200s the entire
night. At times it would jump to 2 seconds, sometimes even up to
even 8 seconds then at which the connection would completely stall.
Simply connecting to a website or a gameserver
would render itself impossible. Speedtests were very poor quality (as
long as we were able to open the webpage). That
night the internet was practically unusable.
This next series of pictures were also taken on resedential cable with
dynamic ip addresses. Located at Annadale, Va.
Prognosis: At this location speed seemed to be a little
better in speedtests, at least webpages would open. Speed showed
to be above 100k download but not much hope after that. Ping was jumpy,
I had seen the lowest ping cox has given me
for a while -under 100ms. This didn't last for long, it shot back up
to the 600s with packet loss.

Prognosis: What a suprise! Lag. Taken Sept. 11th.
Update as of Sept. 28th: Sorry haven't gotten any new
pics yet, been kinda busy. Anywho, Cox has been upgrading
the neighborhood in vienna to fiber. Basically there replacing old
wires with fiber, so that the nodes are equipted to hold
more users (you would think). Now the only thing coaxial is the line
from the cablemodem to the node. Okay, this is a step
in the right direction. If you haven't heard Fairfax County (our county)
has been fining Cox Communications for not completing
their updates in this area, im telling you now. It's something like
$2000 a day, and $2,000,000 if they fail to complete a series
of scheduled updates. The article can be found here.
This post is after the updates have taken place, so what has it done?
Nothing. Still lags. I have called them about it many times, they have
done tests, and agree with me that basically my line sucks.
Unfortunately they can do nothing, at least the techsupport, I don't
think i can get to talk to a manager or a boss anytime soon.
Ill keep up my attempt to update this website, now that I see people
are actually viewing it, I know a lot more people in this area
with Cox HSI, so perhaps my next step is to test their lines.
Update as of Oct. 4th: Nothing significant has happened
with cox or bandwith issues. Our area was one of the areas hit
when UUNet had its outage, a few isp's around here were lagging badly.
Other people ive talked to with Cox
agree that this area is way oversubscribed, along with other cable
companies like Comcast & Adelphia.
Update as of Oct. 6th: Was at a friends house
on saturday, in Maryland, they had RCN cable modem. Man that was fast.
Speedtest showed 1326k download, 766k upload. Ping was great, sub 10ms all the
way to the backbone, to which
RCN has at least 9 major ones just in this area alone. I checked on the availibiliy
of it in my house, a friends house,
and another friends house, all in this area. Apparently, neither RCN, Comcast
(excluding alexandria), Charter, or ATTBI
are avilible in this area. It seems that we are stuck with the crap that cox
charges us. Details about RCN in this area.
Update as of Oct. 11th: Been getting a lot of feedback
on dslreports.com on all my spam posts etc. I post my email
address here on this page so that I can get feedback from you, not
from dslreports.com, so please, send via email, cuz its
easier for me to delete your message =)
The next series of photos were taken in an unnamed
location on the west coast, sent to me by Ryan. Thanks Ryan.

Prognosis: Mr. Ryan didn't provide me with a description
for the pictures, so ill do my best. It looks like most or all of the
speedtests were taken on the west coast. Im not sure what his zip code
is, california? He seems to have some good bandwith
over there. Im not sure what his cap is. Telling by the amount of users
on Dslreports.com, it was off-peak hours? Usually when
I come on theres 1000 or more. It's good to know somebody on Cox has
some decent bandwith. Please continue with the
photos, mine are getting stale.
These next pictures was taken on resedential cable
with dynamic ip addresses. Located at Connecticut.

Prognosis: Good Speeds for Mr. Rob in Connecticut. His
ping seems to be very stable. Not an exact specified date, but
the email was recieved Thursday Oct. 17th. Mr. Rob also provided me
a description of what he did to increase his speeds.
They follow in this order: 1. Formatted my hard drive to make sure
all the cox bullshit was off the computer. 2. Used
DR.TCP to set my RWIN value to the right level. Also modified the windows
reg for broadband. 3. Told cox to give me
a signal booster. 4. Cox did recent work in my area because of poor
service a few months ago. I can relate to most of that.
I haven't formatted my hard drive though, I can just test it on another
computer. I too have tweeked my settings, and I have
a signal booster. Cox has been replacing coax lines with fiber lines
all except from house to node. Im curious though, you
live in Connecticut, but dosen't Optimum Online service Connecticut?
I would jump on OOL any day of the week if I
had the chance. Thanks for the Photos Mr. Rob.
Update as of Oct. 20th: <Unrelated to Cox>
I posted some photos of my ping/bandwith relationship at school. They
can be found here. Theres a good amount of bandwith
to download/upload, and ping is great for playing online. Spending
a friday afternoon in the Compsite room playing Counterstrike makes for a good
way to have fun now. If only we could get
into the Network Design & Technology (CCNA) room where they have P4's =)
Update as of Oct. 24th: Due to the amount of users (I
have users??), I have created a forum. All your blabber can be
posted their. It can be found here
and at the top & bottom or this page. Please feel free to post your
questions relating to
cox, post your images if you prefer, or for any reason.
Update as of Oct. 25th: <Unrelated to Cox> Updated the front
page of this website a little. Compressed all the preview
images from a total of 521kb to 138kb. It should load a whole lot faster now.
Not really news but worth telling.
Update as of Mar. 6th: <Unrelated to Cox> After my hard drive got deleted I lost pass to this site for updating so
I had to take 2 hours to brute the pass at school on the ds-3. It's good now. I'll try to add some crap.Want to add to this? email your pictures to fonboy3d@yahoo.com
Excuse me if I make a typo or misspell something
